Events, Training and Consultancy
SEBDA exists to promote better understanding of the needs of children and young people with SEBD - and of responses to those needs. An important way of pursuing this aim is through our events and training programme.
For overview of the accredited and other training that we offer (including our flexible route to a specialist Master's degree in SEBD/BESD combined with other options), see our downloadable colour leaflet.
Conferences/Events
We have a long tradition of staging high quality professional development including regional day events, half-day or evening meetings as well as our national UK-wide conferences or (using a more accurate descriptor) 'study course'.
Accredited specialist courses in SEBD at Master's and Foundation Degree levels
We are now enrolling students for our 2012/13 programme, starting September, 2012
Our long-established core courses 'Understanding and Managing Children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties' had record numbers of teachers, TAs and other professionals enrolled for our 2009/10 and 2010/11 courses, offered in partnership with the highly regarded University of Leicester, the 2008 University of the Year. These courses are now a leading training route for professionals working in the BESD/PRU or wider SEBD field.
Course 1(60 credits at Master's) is for qualified teachers (and occasionally other professionals with a good honours degree). Course 2 (40 credits at first degree level) is for teaching assistants, residential care workers, mentors and other professionals who would like credits towards a first degree.

A major component of our Master's Degree programme or as a stand-alone post graduate certificate: 'Mental Health Problems in Children with SEBD/BESD'. In September 2011 we are running this course again, either as a stand-alone post grad certificate or as part of your route to a MA (Learning and Teaching) specialising in 'behaviour'/SENs. Reviewers describe this a brilliant mix of the practical and theoretical, designed to interest, inform and enhance your work.
